we own the light

these creatures live in darkness
although the world is bright
just us among the shadows
still walk its streets of light
and we have walked since day one
when time was just a notion
when life was still a concept
awaiting the first motion
and we do not fear mortals
and we do not fear gods
and we don't need illusions
and we don't need our sight
our voices are eternal,
our spines are made of steel
and we can rip our skin off
each time we want to feel
the wind caress our blood flow
and our streaming nerves,
our eyes are wide and hungry,
our teeth are sharp and glow,
our claws can kill the moment,
our minds disrupt forever,
our love and hate are pure,
our lips have murmured "never"
and while mortals need daylight,
put veils upon their eyes,
take comfort in forgetting,
we wake and own the night
