After walking this earth for more than eight decades I can relate to this old guy so beautifully rendered although I have many more nails than just one.

so do I :) I would so much like to print a few of these from time to time, but it costs a bit especially if I want them in large format (and to change them often...)
I eventually end up printing a few for exhibitions (or sales but those don't linger too much in my room :) )

nope, it's just intended as a way to keep the eyes open. but it's a metaphor so in the end the representation is not supposed to be functional

Oh my goodness... this is gorgeous. So surreal, and sparks thoughts in the mind.
Your line variation is outstanding as well. Beautiful!

I appreciate the way you added focus to the eye and (more importantly) the nail, but I miss being able to see your lines and shading the way you can in the sketch. Your mark-making is one of my favourite things about your work.

I actually kept comparing it to the original sketch and I felt it got better and also gained depth
I might post the plain sketch too, if not here then on facebook when it goes on sale

I really like the misty/foggy effect, it adds something to the image...I'm not sure what, but it looks right.

well first of all it adds some volume - when I compared to the old one it seemed more 3D
and intent I guess - the fact that the focus is centered on the nail and eye

I'd get tired of what I saw after a while of seeing everything as well. At least, that's just my take on this.
